Fact Check: Orban Did NOT Admit That He Is Corrupt Edited

Did Prime Minister Viktor Orban admit in a speech that they are the most corrupt Hungarian government so far? No, that's not true: The speech is edited, and his sentences are taken out of context and mixed.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) on TikTok on March 19, 2024, under the title (translated from Hungarian to English by Lead Stories staff) "We are going backward." It opened:

We are the leaders of the most corrupt government in Hungary. The one who promised you a cure, but in reality, only offers you three-in-one fake videos, fake and scary news.

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

In the video on TikTok, Orban says (as translated):

We are the leaders of the most corrupt government in Hungary. The one who promised you a cure, but in reality, only offers you three-in-one fake videos, fake and scary news. And when you've believed all the bullshit, bought all the publications, he takes your money and runs off to the Bahamas. And you're left with no cure, empty pockets, and an economy crumbling under the weight of the weight on the ground.

The speech is edited. It mixes sentences from Orban's State of the Nation Address (archived here) on February 12, 2022. The creator took them out of context and re-edited them to make the speech sound like Orban was critical of himself and his government. The video was posted by @kzoli64 (archived here), a TikTok user who mostly posts about politics.

These are Orban's original remarks: The official transcription and translation of the speech are available on the prime minister's website (archived here):

This would be the great team running Hungary: Gyurcsány and Bajnai, the leaders of Hungary's most corrupt government, reinforced by the addition of a mushroom expert. This is what the Left is offering Hungary. One does not know whether to laugh or cry.
... I remember that this is how Ferenc Gyurcsány started out. But he reminds me more of a fraudulent TV faith healer who promises you a cure for your ills, but in the end only offers you a discounted three-pack of DVDs. And when you have been taken in by all the bunkum and bought everything on offer, he takes your money and makes off to the Bahamas. You are left with no cure, empty pockets, and a bunch of cheesy DVDs.
